El gurú de la informática Steve Jobs murió hoy a los 56 años. Reconocido como un visionario de la tecnología, el empresario fue cofundador y CEO de Apple, creador de Pixar y máximo accionista individual de The Walt Disney Company.
"Estamos profundamente entristecidos por anunciar que Steve Jobs falleció hoy", anunció el directorio de Apple por medio de un comunicado. "La brillantez de Steve, su pasión y energía fueron la fuente de incontables innovaciones que enriquecen y mejoran todas nuestras vidas. El mundo es inconmensurablemente mejor debido a Steve".
"Steve murió pacíficamente rodeado por su familia", indicaron sus parientes en un comunicado, agradeciendo a todos los que los apoyaron en el último año de batalla contra el cáncer. "En su vida pública, Steve fue conocido como un visionario; en su vida privada el quiso a su familia", agregaron. Jobs dejó a su esposa Laurene y tres hijos. También tuvo una hija anterior a su matrimonio.
Nació en San Francisco en 1955 y sus padres, dos jóvenes universitarios, lo dieron en adopción. Fue criado por una pareja de origen armenio. Sus padres biológicos se casarían luego y tendrían otra hija, la novelista Mona Simpson, a quien Steve no conocería hasta la edad adulta.
Fue posedor de una personalidad carismática, más propia de una estrella del espectáculo que de un hombre de negocios, y un instinto afilado para saber qué quieren los consumidores.

Pero tras acumular éxitos en otras empresas, entre ellas la creación del estudio de animación Pixar, regresó a Apple en 1997, ejerciendo como CEO hasta el 24 de agosto pasado.
"The New York Times" lo caracterizó como el "hombre que redefinió varias industrias" y enumera todos sus éxitos consecutivos: la computadora Macintosh, el reproductor de canciones iPod, el teléfono iPhone y la tablet iPad.
